A White Rose

The red rose whispers of passion,

And the white rose breathes of love;

O, the red rose is a falcon,

And the white rose is a dove.

But I send you-a cream white rosebud,

With a flush on its petal tips;

For the love that is purest and sweetest

Has a kiss of desire on the lips.

The Home of Jim and Jan O'Haro

The White Rose, built in 1900, is constructed of Carthage Marble, a white limestone reminiscent of the "Penny Walls" found in Ireland. The Home sits on an Estate of 10 acres and is decorated primarily with fine antiques from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.

High ceilings, beautiful wainscoting, period wallpaper, chandeliers, a massive rare Italian Marble Fireplace in the Parlor and Stone Portico across the front of the house are only a few of the features you will enjoy.

Originally the property was a 1000 acre dairy farm with a three story traditional home of a Baron of Industry.( At the turn of the century there were more millionaires per capita in Carthage than anyplace in the United States.)

The front walk is a 300 foot journey on Carthage Marble which is shaded by giant Maples, Oaks, Tulip Trees, Chestnut, Holly, Gingko and Magnolia.

There are Rose, Herb, Cut Flower and Vegetable Gardens that guide you to the old Carriage House.

The White Rose is not an Inn but a Bed and Breakfast of the European Genre. It is a private home open for guests to enjoy an atmosphere of warmth and comfort unavailable in commercial lodgings.

Full Irish Breakfasts are served using both Imported ingredients and those grown in our own gardens.

Full course Dinners are also included in Bed and Banquet reservations.

The idea is seductive and yet so simple. Who hasn't wished after a truly superb dinner...the kind that lingers in the memory ...that you could just go upstairs and sink into bed instead of getting in a car and driving somewhere else? To keep the magic that surrounds the very best meals alive, you need to be able to linger, maybe to take your coffee in another room in front of a log fire, knowing that your bed is only a few steps away.... We know, We've been there!
